10 Simple Tips to Stay Fresh During Your Period

Reading Time: 5 minutes

Periods can make you feel uncomfortable and worried about freshness. But with the right care, you can feel clean and confident all day!

Here are 10 easy tips that really work.

1. Change Your Pad Every 4-6 Hours

This is the MOST important rule!

Even if your pad looks clean, change it regularly.

Why?

  • Prevents bad smell
  • Stops bacteria growth
  • Keeps you feeling fresh
  • Reduces risk of infection

How often:

  • Light flow: Every 5-6 hours
  • Medium flow: Every 4-5 hours
  • Heavy flow: Every 3-4 hours
  • At night: Use a fresh pad before sleeping

2. Take Bath Daily (Yes, Daily!)

Some girls skip bath during periods. Don’t do this!

Bathing during periods:

  • Keeps you clean
  • Reduces odor
  • Makes you feel fresh
  • Washes away sweat

Tips:

  • Use warm water if you like
  • Clean the area gently
  • Pat dry with a clean towel

3. Wash Properly (But Don’t Overdo It)

How to clean the private area:

Do:

  • Use plain water
  • Wash from front to back
  • Pat dry gently
  • Wash 2-3 times a day

Don’t:

  • Use soap inside
  • Use perfumed products
  • Scrub hard
  • Douche (wash inside vagina)

Why? Your body has natural good bacteria. Too much washing removes it and can cause problems.

4. Wear Cotton Underwear

Cotton is your best friend!

  • Cotton underwear lets air flow
  • Keeps the area dry
  • Prevents rashes
  • More comfortable than synthetic

Bonus tip: Change underwear at least once a day, more if needed.

5. Choose the Right Pad

Not all pads are the same!

Look for:

  • Breathable material (like cotton)
  • No artificial perfume – can cause irritation
  • Good absorbency – keeps you dry
  • Soft texture – comfortable all day

Eco Saheli pads are made from 100% pure cotton. They’re breathable, soft, and keep you fresh naturally – no fake perfumes needed!

6. Drink Lots of Water

Water is magic during periods!

Drinking water helps:

  • Flush out toxins
  • Reduce bloating
  • Keep you hydrated
  • Prevent constipation
  • Reduce headaches

How much? Aim for 8-10 glasses of water daily.

7. Wear Comfortable, Loose Clothes

Tight clothes during periods = not comfortable!

Better choices:

  • Loose pants or skirts
  • Flowy dresses
  • Soft cotton clothes
  • Dark colors (just in case!)

Why loose clothes?

  • Better air flow
  • Less sweating
  • More comfortable
  • Easier to move

8. Carry Extra Pads and Wipes

Always be prepared!

In your bag, keep:

  • 2-3 extra pads
  • Small pack of wet wipes (unscented)
  • Extra underwear (optional but helpful)
  • Small plastic bag for disposal

Where to keep them:

  • Small pouch in your bag
  • School locker
  • Office drawer
  • Car (if you have one)

9. Dispose Pads Properly

This keeps you and others safe!

How to throw used pads:

Step 1: Remove the pad carefully
Step 2: Fold it (sticky side inside)
Step 3: Wrap in toilet paper or the wrapper of new pad
Step 4: Put in dustbin (NOT in toilet!)
Step 5: Wash your hands well

Never flush pads! They can block toilets.

10. Eat Healthy Foods

What you eat affects how you feel!

Foods that help:

  • Fresh fruits (watermelon, bananas)
  • Vegetables (spinach, carrots)
  • Yogurt (good for stomach)
  • Nuts (give energy)
  • Whole grains (dal, rice, roti)

Foods to limit:

  • Too much salt (causes bloating)
  • Junk food (makes you feel heavy)
  • Too much sugar (energy crash later)
